Become a Big Brother or Big Sister! Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northern BC (BBBSNBC) is currently seeking In-School Mentors to support our growing in-person and virtual programming.

Big Brothers and Sisters have the opportunity to directly inspire and engage with a Little Brother or Sister by meeting either in person or online. Build a healthy relationship with a young person while having fun chatting, playing games and puzzles, creating arts and crafts projects, and more.

1 hour per week during school hours (9:00 AM – 2:00 PM) for the duration of the school year (minimum of four months), plus additional time for trainings and orientation as needed.


-Maintain regular communications with BBBSNBC Programs Team throughout the duration of the match (until the end of the current school year)
-Communication may vary between in-person or Zoom meetings, phone calls, or emails
-Communicate directly with school staff wherever relevant
-Regularly check-in to in-person or online meetings
-Meet once weekly with a Little Brother or Sister for one hour, either on site at school or online via Zoom video-conference platform (account will be provided)
-Support the growth of a healthy relationship while taking part in a variety of fun activities either online or in person
-Provide regular feedback on match development to BBBSNBC Programs Team
-Maintain confidentiality and respect the differences and boundaries of Littles in the program


-Excellent interpersonal skills
-Compassionate, respectful, and patient, particularly when working with children
-Reliability, punctuality, and the ability to maintain confidentiality
-Experience working with children considered an asset
-Familiarity with computers and technology may be required for virtual programs (training will be provided)
-Familiarity with basic programs and services of Big Brothers Big Sisters (training will be provided)


Successful applicants will submit a Volunteer Application Form and participate in the complete screening process including a) Police Information Check, b) Reference Check, c) Orientation and Interview, d) Relevant Training, and d) Virtual Skills Assessments and Trainings where required.
