PRINCE GEORGE – Local volunteers were in the spotlight at this year’s Civic Appreciation Awards gala. The highlight was Chelsea Wallach and Steve Williams who both received the Community Champion Award of Merit for their outstanding volunteerism during the Cariboo wildfires.
The event took place at the Prince George Conference and Civic Centre Friday night, where Mayor Lyn Hall and council members honoured outstanding community members, sites and organizations under eight different categories.
Zelda Craig, Tianna Dulmage, Bernadette Kipping, Randy Seabrook, Amanda Tarry and Dan Watt were the recipients of the Recreation and Culture Award of Merit.
Spinal Cord Injury BC was honoured with the Access Award of Merit.
The Heritage Places Award was presented to the Taylor House at 1872 10th Avenue.
Terry Bryden, Valerie Giles, Brenda Pearson and Marianne Sprague were presented with the Community Service Award of Merit.
The Certificate of Project Recognition went to 1811 Spruce Street and 1395 5th Avenue.
The 2018 Youth of the Year was awarded to Sarah Ash and the Runner Up was Shamitha Aravind.
Jeff Elder, Sue Judge and Gerry van Caeseele were honoured with the Outstanding Volunteer Award of Merit.
In case you missed it, the Rocky Mountain Rangers were awarded Freedom of the City last month, which is the highest award given by city council.
